Judging Criteria for Round 6

Because of the format of this round, we decided to use a weighted scale to help us judge the videos. First each entry was scored on a scale of 1 - 5 for three aspects that we were looking for.
Met the Challenge (1 - 5, 1: had nothing to do with the challenge, 5: Nailed it)
Difficulty (1 - 5, 1: Incredibly easy, 5: Incredibly difficult)
&Difficulty scores were based on the song used, the concept behind the video, etc.
Editing (1 - 5, 1: Poor timing, clips don't match, lots of stray frames, 5: Perfection [ish])

Then each aspect was given a weight that would be used to multiply the judge's score by. The weights were different for each prompt. The harder it was to meet the challenge of the prompt, the more the 'Met the Challenge' score was worth. If it was a relatively easy challenge to meet, like the holiday challenge, the Editing score was worth more. These weights reflect what the judges were looking for most in each video.

Weighted:
Met the Challenge
Cliche - 75%
Opening/Ridiculous Ship - 50%
Christmas - 30%

Difficulty
Cliche - 13%
Opening/Ridiculous Ship - 25%
Christmas - 25%

Editing
Cliche - 12%
Opening/Ridiculous Ship - 25%
Christmas - 45%

The editing weights were given a slight boost based on the editing software used. They're not enough to cause a mediocre video to win simply because it was made in WMM, but they are enough to break ties. The boost is mainly there, though, to award solidly edited videos made in simpler programs because those programs are so limited and often more difficult to make even simple vids in.
Editing Class 3: + 0% Editing Weight
Editing Class 2: +2% Editing Weight
Editing Class 1: +4% Editing Weight

Each score was multiplied by their respective weight and then all three were added together to get a score out of 5. Then April and I took our indiviual scores and averaged them together to come up with a final score for each video. These scores were the major factor in deciding the winners, but we also had to factor in our own personal preferences since the scores were sooooo close in the top vids. Here's a quick example on how the scoring went in case you're still confused.

Judge 1 Scores for a Christmas entry made in Ulead: Met the Challenge: 5, Difficulty: 3, Editing: 4 (NOTE: These are completely made up off the top of my ahead and not actual scores from the contest.
Weighted score: 5 * 0.30 + 3 * 0.25 + 4 * (0.45 + 0.02) = 4.13 out of 5

If you are still confused by the judging process or wish to know what you're exact scores were, feel free to email us at skaroawards@gmail.com. We aren't doing reviews for this challenge round so if you are wanting feedback, asking for your scores would be the way to get it. Honorable Mentions were awarded to all videos that didn't place but still had an average score of 4 or better. The Participaton award is free for all participants to take. The awards are pretty basic this round. With classes and homework, I didn't have time to do animations. The Participation background is actually an original image. I took that picture of Nick Briggs at the Chicago TARDIS convention back in November. :)
