Best of the Best Rules

Click here for the regular competition rules

  1. You cannot nominate your own work. The video must have been made by another person.
  2. Must be made with actual video clips. No slideshows!
  3. NO CLIP THEFT!! Nominated videos cannot use clips taken from other people's videos.
  4. All Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sarah Jane Adventures videos (or any combination of the three) are allowed except where specified. This includes the Classic Series!
  5. Outside footage of the actors can be used, but only for up to 50% of the video. At least half of the video must be footage from within the Whoniverse. ***10.5/Rose and AU categories are the only exceptions.
  6. Videos cannot be cross-overs with outside fandoms! Cross-overs within the Whoniverse is fine, but the video can't be crossed with any fandom that isn't related to Doctor Who.
  7. We need at least two ways to contact the original vidder. Acceptable contact info includes email address, YouTube profile page, Imeem profile page, LiveJournal account name, or Foolish Passion Vidding Forum account name. We want to be sure the vidder can be reached. We prefer to have an email address and another website's accont name, but if you can only get a hold of the vidder's YouTube account and LiveJournal account that's fine. Vimeo or Bam accounts are not accepted for contact info as none of the Skaro judges use these sites and would not be able to contact the vidder through them.
  8. Video links must be live for the entire duration of the contest (about 2 months). This means no Yousendit, sendspace, or megaupload links. YouTube, Imeem, vimeo, mediafire, personal sites, and other permanent or semipermanent download or streaming links are okay. Sendspace and megaupload links are usually online for several weeks, but since the videos could be months old, we don't want to risk the link going down. Streaming links might be best for when the voting polls open.
  9. Videos must have been made between May 1, 2008 and April 30, 2009. All nominees must have proof of the date they were made. Whether it be the original LiveJournal post, a date stamp at the end of the video, the YouTube page, anything that shows the date the video went live online is valid. When listing the date the video went live on the submission form, you don't have to be specific. Month and year is good enough. We will be checking these!
  10. We ask for your name and email address in the submission form for two reasons: to verify you are a different person (each person can only nominate once) and so we can let you know if the vidder you nominated accepted the nomination or not. We'll also notify you if the video was disqualified for any reason or wasn't eligible for the category. Notifying those that nominate videos will help eliminate the questions and confusion when the final list of nominees are posted and some videos are missing.
  11. If a video is disqualified during the nominations period, we will NOT allow the viewer to nominate a different video. If a video is disqualifed during the voting period, we will allow a re-vote. So be careful when you are nominating and pay close attention to the categories!
  12. You can only nominate one video per category. If you mess up the submission form, you can email us explaining what happened and what needs to be corrected. Chances are if it is a small error such as a misspelling or an incorrect link, we can fix it. If you nominated a video for the wrong category, we will not allow you to correct it. If the video is not eligible for the category, it will simply be dropped from the nominees.
  13. For a category to be judged, there must be videos from three different vidders nominated. Any category that is not judged will have the old BotB round dates added to the new BotB round's dates. For example, if TV Openings doesn't receive enough nominations this round, then in next year's (2010) BotB round, TV Opening spoofs that were made between May 1, 2008 and April 31, 2010 will still be allowed.
  14. Co-lab videos (videos made by more than one vidder) are allowed. Just be sure to list all involved vidders and ways to contact them. Separate the names and links by commas, and please list the contact info in the same order you list the names. It will make it easier for us to determine who is who. All involved vidders will have to accept the nomination for the co-lab video to be judged.
  15. No vidder can have more than two videos nominated in a given category. If more than two videos are nominated, the two with the most nominations will be the ones added to final list.

Story - videos that really focus on telling a specific story or event rather than portraying a character or relationship.

Best Vidder - just like it implies, who you think was the best vidder (for any DW fandom) of the past year.

Best New Vidder - to be eligible for this category the vidder must have started vidding in the Doctor Who world after January 2008. The vidder could have also started vidding Torchwood or Sarah Jane Adventures after this date and be eligible as long as they never made any Doctor Who related videos before 2008.

Categories for Doctor Who videos only

Rose character or any romantic relationship involving Rose - Includes OT3 and any past, current or future Doctors EXCEPT 10.5/Rose. Due to the nature of 10.5 videos, they will have their own category.

Donna character or any romantic relationship involving Donna - self-explanatory

10.5/Rose - can use unlimited outside footage

Best Doctor Who Video - must be purely a Doctor Who video, no cross-overs.

Doctor Character Study - can focus on any or all of the Doctors

***For videos involving Jack, some Doctor Who footage may be used to tell the story, but it must clearly be a Torchwood video and not a cross-over video to be nominated in the following categories. Final decision on questionable videos will be made by the main Skaro judges and not the original vidder***

Best Torchwood Video

Jack/Ianto Relationship

Gwen character or any romantic relationship involving Gwen

Other Categories:

Martha character or any romantic relationship involving Martha - Doctor Who video that can cross-over with Torchwood
